Smeg, acronym of Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, was founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni in Guastalla, Reggio Emilia. After the Second World War, Smeg became a concrete reality in the houses of all Italians. The company evolved together with Italian society and families, and it accompanied them along the decades by always providing new and advanced white goods: during the 50s, Smeg proposed one of the first gas stoves with automatic starting, oven safety valve and cooking timer. In the following decades, Smeg specialized in the production of electrical appliances of all kinds, from washing machines to fridges, such as the famous colourful fridge, characterized by a distinctive 50’s style. In fact, style and design always had a main role for the Italian company: Smeg’s products enrich your house with style and become real protagonists of your domestic ambiences. For this reason, Smeg’s planning centre collaborated with world-renowned architects and designers such as Guido Canali, Mario Bellini, studio Piano Design, Marc Newson, Giancarlo Candeago. The work of the designers joins the studies of Smeg’s certified laboratories: the result are products with a unique design, which can guarantee high technical performances and high degree of reliability. Nowadays, Smeg has acquired new professional division for the production of restaurant products and tools for sanitization.
