STUDIO 65
The Bocca Sofa and Beyond
Among Studio 65’s most iconic creations is the Bocca red lips sofa, designed in 1970 and produced by Gufram. Inspired by Salvador Dalí and Hollywood glam, the piece is a sculptural interpretation of sensuality and surrealism, shaped like a pair of red lips. Now a part of museums and private collections around the world, the Bocca red sofa is more than furniture: it’s a pop icon. Over the years, it has evolved into new forms, including the Bocca Unlimited version with luxurious bouclé wool upholstery, maintaining its status as a timeless and playful design object.
Pop Radicalism in Sculptural Form
Studio 65’s collaboration with Gufram also gave rise to the Capitello seat, another example of their capacity to blend classical references with postmodern subversion. Molded from polyurethane, this armchair takes the form of a broken Ionic column, making a witty critique of architectural history while offering a surprisingly ergonomic and comfortable seat. Together with chairs and easy chairs, creative armchairs and sofas, and contemporary decorative objects, Studio 65’s works embody a philosophy where concept, irony, and user experience intersect.
From Radical Interiors to Global Architecture
While the studio is celebrated for its playful objects, its architectural projects span from Europe to the Middle East. Under the direction of Franco Audrito and his partner Athena Sampaniotou, Studio 65 has led major projects in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt, and beyond. Their holistic approach to design encompasses environmental consulting, 3D modeling, project management, and conceptual renderings. With offices in Turin and Riyadh, the studio continues to deliver high-quality architecture rooted in experimentation and collaboration.
Legacy and Cultural Archive
In 2015, Franco Audrito and his daughter Valentina founded “Il Mercante di Nuvole” (The Merchant of Clouds), a cultural association aimed at preserving Studio 65’s historical archive and promoting education through workshops, events, and exhibitions. Located in Turin, this space showcases the studio’s most iconic design objects, offering a living history of radical design. Whether seeking to buy Bocca Sofa Gufram pieces, explore Studio 65 Italian design, or understand the roots of pop art sofas, design lovers continue to look to Studio 65 for inspiration and bold originality.
