Marie Michielssen is of Belgian origin and works as a designer in Antwerp. She was initially trained as a graphic designer. She loves to use traditional materials for her creations, which could be called "old style" materials; for example she is fascinated by paper on which she drew during her studies, with no digital tools. Moreover, paper is appreciated by the designer because it can be manipulated giving the idea of the shape that the product will have and taking into account the fact that its creations focus primarily on the functionality of the object. Marie Michielssen has been collaborating with Serax for over twenty years and on average she plans two collections every year. These include the collections White Earth, Pawn, Terrazzo and Marie, as well as Urban Jungle, Wind & Fire and Earth lamps.
