Philippe Starck x Kartell: innovative furniture and contemporary design

Philippe Starck has developed an extensive body of work for Kartell, exploring the possibilities of industrial production and contemporary materials across different furniture categories. His designs range from Kartell chairs and lounge seating to tables, storage and accessories, often reinterpreting familiar forms through transparency or unexpected proportions. This approach has produced pieces suited to dining rooms, living areas and other modern spaces where furniture can perform a practical function while maintaining a recognizable visual identity.

Ero|S|: a transparent swivel armchair

The Ero|S|swivel armchair in polycarbonate combines an enveloping seat with a visually light transparent shell, creating a distinctive interpretation of contemporary seating. Its curved profile gives the armchair a sculptural character while the swivel function adds flexibility for living, dining and lounge environments. Ero|S| demonstrates how a transparent polycarbonate chair can maintain a strong presence without visually overwhelming the surrounding interior.

Uncle Jim: sculptural Kartell seating in polycarbonate

The Uncle Jim armchair in polycarbonate reflects Starck’s exploration of large-scale transparent furniture and continuous forms. Its generous silhouette creates a lounge chair with a strong architectural presence while preserving the visual lightness associated with transparent material. Within the wider selection of Kartell armchairs and sofas, Uncle Jim offers an expressive solution for contemporary living rooms, lounge areas and interiors where seating is intended to become a focal point.

Misses Flower Power: an expressive Kartell vase

The Misses Flower Power tall vase in polyethylene transforms the traditional decorative vase through an elongated silhouette and dramatic scale. Designed as a strong visual element within the interior, it can accommodate floral arrangements or stand independently as a sculptural object. Its proportions make it particularly relevant for spacious living areas, entrances and other settings where designer vases can contribute architectural height and colour to the composition.

Mirrors, clocks and accessories for contemporary interiors

Starck’s work for Kartell also extends to accessories that complete and personalize the home. Kartell mirrors, consoles, clocks, candle holders and lanterns can introduce functional details without departing from the collection’s contemporary aesthetic. Used individually or coordinated with furniture, these objects help connect different areas of an interior while adding reflective surfaces, decorative accents and practical functions.

Kartell lighting and playful designs for different spaces

The collection includes Kartell pendant lamps, portable lamps and wall lighting designed to complement contemporary interiors with both functional and atmospheric illumination. Portable solutions provide greater flexibility when light is needed in different areas, while suspension and wall lamps help define dining, living and transitional spaces. Starck’s work also reaches into Kartell kids furniture, applying his recognizable design approach to playful objects and furnishings conceived for children’s environments.
