MAARTEN VAN SEVEREN
Maarten Van Severen studied architecture at the Art Academy of Ghent. He designed his first furniture in 1986 and the following year he founded his own independent laboratory. In 1990, he began to work closely with Rem Koolhaas and also paid particular attention to interior design activities. During this period he also began to teach in various universities, including the University College West Flanders in Kortrijk (1996), the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht (1996-97), the Delft University of Technology (1998) and University of Helsinki and Barcelona (2000). When Maarten Van Severen stared to collaborate with Kartell marked a new phase in his career. Until his death in Ghent in 2005, Maarten Van Severen developed a range of new products, which gradually became very important for the history of interior design.
