MARCEL WANDERS

Marcel Wanders is a Flemish designer born in Boxtel, Netherlands, in 1963. Graduated with honors at the School of the Arts of Arnhem in 1988, his fame began after the design of the seat Knotted Chair for Droog Design in 1996, which has become an icon. Today he has a professional studio in Amsterdam and he works in the fields of product, architecture and interior design for the most prestigious international companies: B&B Italia, Mandarina Duck, Cappellini, Cassina, Flos, Kartell, Droog Design, Bisazza, Boffi, Moroso, Poliform and Vitra. Marcel Wanders is the founder and the art-director of Mooi, design brand founded in 2000 and known all over the world. He has won several prizes and some of his object are part of important collections of museums such as the Museum of Modern Art of New York and San Francisco, the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, the Central Museum of Utrecht, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen of Rotterdam and the Museum of Decorative Arts of Copenhagen. In 2005 he edited the International Design Yearbook. In the same year he founded, together with the chef Peter Lute, Lute Suits, the first “all over city suits” hotel of the world. In addition to that, he designed the public spaces of the Hotel Rinvington in New York. In 2007 he received the prize “Visionary!” at the Museum of Art and Design of New York.
